Hey everybody it's Justin! I've got some big news! Last Saturday Minami and I went to Chofu in Tokyo and took part in the 「Wagakki Mokumoku Kai」event. The Wagakki Mokumoku Kai is an event where people go to talk about and practice with traditional Japanese instruments.
We were able to interview the founder Yuji Yamashita.
Yuji started this event three years ago to get various people who are interested in traditional Japanese instruments to meet, discuss music and jam together. There are many people who played different types of instruments for example the Koto, Shakuhachi and Shamisen.

There have been a total of 60 events spanning several different areas across Japan. There are events held in Tokyo, Chiba and parts of Central West Japan. Unfortunately there aren't many foreigners that go. I think they've been about 5 or so and language tends to be the main barrier preventing foreigners from going. It was a really great event with a lot of really good people. I highly recommend as many foreigners go as possible. Even if you don't speak Japanese that will take great opportunity to meet people make some new friends and learn a lot about traditional Japanese music.
Check out Yuji Yamashita's website and feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
